Presence and follow

Who is on the board, what others see, and how following a participant works.

Status: available updated 2026-10-28

What is visible

Presence is a separate stream that does not change the document. It shows:

  • who is on the board right now;
  • where each person's cursor is;
  • which reaction a person sent, if they sent one.

Presence is not saved: close the tab and you disappear from the list. The edit history stays.

Name and colour

A participant is represented by a name and a colour. The name can be changed in the top bar; it is stored in the browser and reused on the next sign-in. Two tabs with the same name are one participant. To test a two-person scenario, set a second name in the address: /?room=<board>&user=Ann.

Follow

Follow is a subscription to another person's camera, not to their permissions:

  1. you choose a participant and turn follow on;
  2. your camera repeats their movements and zoom;
  3. you can leave at any moment;
  4. the person being followed can stop all followers at once.

Follow does not give access: if the board is closed, you will see only what you could open anyway.

Calling everyone to you

This is an invitation, not coercion: a person receives a request, agrees — and ends up in your part of the board with follow on. A refusal changes nothing. If automatic follow is enabled on the board, the invitation does not ask — the view moves immediately.

Practical consequence

Two people can look at different parts of the board and not get in each other's way. A shared picture appears only with follow or with an explicit jump via a link to an object.
